Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia have recently announced a temporary ban on the import of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine until the end of June.
Official representatives from these countries report that the ban was needed in order to protect their national agriculture industries from competing with a high volume of cheaper imported goods from Ukraine.
They also report that harmful substances (pesticides) were detected during the inspection of imported Ukrainian grain, citing food safety issues as another reason for the import ban.
Slovakia has specified that it will continue to allow the transit of Ukrainian goods through the country under strict control.
According to the three countries, the European Commission rejects the import ban as a unilateral action.
