During the meeting of the Work Group on African swine fever (ASF), it was pointed out that the biosecurity principles implemented up to now to reduce the appearance of the ASF virus on the farms have shown that the strict fulfilment of the regulations implemented in the areas subjected to restrictions has yielded the desired results.

The Work Group is preparing a regulation project that introduces the obligation for all the farms to adapt in order to fulfil the biosecurity programme principles. Shortly, the project will be submitted to a public enquiry. If it is approved in March, an information campaign regarding the new regulation is foreseen. A strict surveillance on the pig farms will be implemented.

The project foresees an adaptation period for the farms regarding the new regulations, as well as aids for those farms that wish to quit production or that are unable to fulfil the requirements.
