Poland: Sharp decline in number of pig farms

The current pig inventory of Poland is at levels seen 70 years ago.

Poland has observed a sharp decline in its pig inventory and in the number of pig farms. In April 2021, the pig inventory was 10.2 million head, which is down 9.4% from January 2021. The pig inventory was at such levels 70 years ago.

According to ARMA data, more than 20,000 pig farms were liquidated during these last few months. At the end of April, there were just 80,006 farms, compared to January of this year with 103,659 pig farms.
