According to Agreste, pork consumption will recover in 2024 (+1.4% after -3.7% in 2023), driven by higher slaughterhouse volumes (+1.2%) and a slowing consumer price (+1.5% after +9.5% in 2023).
The foreign trade deficit in pork widens in volume terms (-28.1 thousand tonnes carcass equivalent vs. -23.2 thousand in 2023), with imports (+1.4%) outstripping exports (+0.6%). In terms of value, the deficit will reach -609.3 million euros in 2024 versus -551.1 million euros in 2023, as a result of the rise in imports (+1.2%) and the contraction in exports (-2.1%).
