The Russian Federation may increase pork exports this year to 200-220 thousand tons against 173 thousand tons in 2022. This forecast was made by Yuri Kovalev, General Director of the National Union of Pork Producers, at the conference "Livestock & Feed Production" in Moscow.
According to the presentation, in the first half of the year, pork exports will reach 116.6 thousand tons against 83.3 thousand tons last year (40% growth). In particular, supplies to Belarus will increase up to 41.2 thousand tons from 34.2 thousand tons a year ago, and to Vietnam up to 46 thousand tons from 23.7 thousand tons. Pork is also supplied to Hong Kong, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and several other countries.
According to the forecast of the Union, by the end of the year, exports to the EAEU countries may account for about 50% of its volume.
Kovalev attributes the growth of supplies abroad this year to the increase in pork production. According to the Union estimates, in the first half of the year, this figure will grow by 4.2%, to 2.871 million tons (in live weight on farms of all categories). Agricultural organizations may increase by 5.4%, to 2.697 million tons, while individual farms and farmers are expected to decline by 12% and 9%, respectively.
In 2022, pork production in Russia was 5.765 million tons, 5% more than in 2021. The main volume came from agricultural organizations - 5.237 million tons (6.9% more).
