According to Inaporc, in 2023, each inhabitant of France consumed around 30.6 kg/capita/year of pork (meat and charcuterie). Pork is the most widely consumed meat in France, ahead of poultry (29.5 kg/capita) and beef and veal (21.3 kg/capita). 75% of pork is consumed as charcuterie.
Over the past year, overall pork consumption in France (including home and away-from-home consumption) was rebalanced in relation to poultry consumption. The French caught up with their poultry consumption after the avian influenza outbreaks and consequently reduced their pork consumption, which fell in volume by an estimated 3.7% vs. 2022, after having risen by 0.7% in 2022 vs. 2021.
2024 trend: overall pork consumption back on the rise
Over the first two months of 2024, apparent pork consumption picked up 1.6%, driven by out-of-home catering, while consumption of other meats remained on a downward trend.
