Chile: Pork production continues to rise

Pork production so far this year continues to increase, according to the latest report by the Office of Agrarian Studies and Policies (Odepa).

The figures for the period from January to August show an cumulative production of 385,514 tonnes, which represents an increase of 7.3% compared to the same period in 2019 (359,443 t).

Imports of pork and offal have sharply declined 18%, from 77,254 tonnes exported between January-August 2019 to 63,306 t for the same period in 2020. In contrast, exports have increased significantly (+29.4%), reaching 210,397 t (162,642 t for the same period in 2019). It should be noted that, as reported by Odepa in relation to USDA projections, China will decrease imports of pork.
