Last November 9th, the Minister of Agriculture, through the First Vice Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Mr Dzhambulat Hatuov, held a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Pig Producers’ National Union.
According to the First Vice Minister, during the first 9 months of 2017, the production of pigs for their slaughter in terms of liveweight on all the farm categories rose by 4.5% with respect to the same period in 2016, reaching 3.17 million tonnes. According to preliminary estimates by the Ministry of Agriculture, it is expected that by the end of 2017 the total production reaches 4.57 million tonnes, that represent an increase by 5.1% with respect to 2016.
If the growth rates go on, by the end of 2017, Russia will reach a meat and meat products self-sufficiency of 85% at least.
On the other hand, the CEO of the Pig Producers’ National Union, Mr Yuri Kovalev, presented a report on the current situation of the pig market according to which the volume of pork exports in the January-September period rose by 50% and reached 51,700 tonnes, and it is expected that by the end of 2017 it can reach 75,000 tonnes.
