Researchers from the University of the Philippines in Los Baños have developed a nationwide pork traceability system (NPTS) that can assure the safety and quality of locally produced pork meat.

One of the researchers, Dr Jaderick Pabico, said that the NPTS is an information and communications technology-based system that will allow real-time tracking of animals from ‘pen to plate’, and trace meat cuts and permit the use of a DNA-based verification system. It is also designed to be responsive to international standards in preparation for the regional economic integration later this year.
