Possible import of Russian pork to Hong Kong

Working meeting between the Rosselkhoznadzor officials and Dr. Glorey Them, Chief Health Inspector (for import and export) of the Centre for Food Safety, Food and Environmental Safety Department, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) took place during the 85th OIE General Session in Paris on May 25, 2017.

During the meeting the veterinary certificate for beef import from Russia to Hong Kong was agreed by the parties.

Regarding porcine products it was agreed that the Rosselkhoznadzor would provide materials requested by Hong Kong party for considering possible import of Russian pork to Hong Kong up to the end of June 2017. Also, the parties have agreed to take parallel efforts for harmonization of model certificates for pork, and poultry meat import from the Russia and to carry out inspection of Russian beef, poultry meat and pork producing establishments once the said certificates are agreed (preliminary, Hong Kong delegation is to visit the Russian Federation in August 2017). Hong Kong party is going to send two groups of expert, 3 experts per group, to Russia to visit Russian producing establishments, Rosselkhoznadzor Territorial Administrations, veterinary laboratories and border inspection posts during one week.

According to Hong Kong procedure the inspection of establishments is a part of the risk assessment system. Upon the inspection completion and approval of its results the Rosselkhoznadzor will be provided a right to inspect Russian producers interested in export of their products to Hong Kong and to provide Hong Kong party with guarantees regarding to the said establishments.
