The pigmeat industry has been experiencing serious difficulties for several months due to the marked slowdown in exports to China, the increasing spread of African swine fever to more Member States, the lingering impact of restrictions imposed by COVID-19, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine which has led to further market disruptions. As a result, there has been a sharp decline in export demand for certain products in the pigmeat sector.
In view of this situation, the European Commission has decided to grant private storage aid for pigmeat through Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2022/470 of 23 March 2022, which was published today and enters into force tomorrow, Friday.
The deadline for submitting applications is April 29, 2022. Applications will be for storage periods of 60, 90, 120, or 150 days.
