On Wednesday November 18 a meeting took place between the Ministers of Agriculture of China and Brazil, Han Changfu and Katia Abreu, during which the issue of tariffs between Mercosur and China was discussed.
"Progress needs to be made towards a preferential tariff agreement. Bilateral trade between Brazil and China reached today $78,000 M and could reach 100,000. An agreement between our countries would be a great event" said the Brasilian minister Katia Abreu.
According to Abreu, Uruguay —who will take over the presidency of Mercosur in December— has already shown interest in the creation of a working group initiate discussions on the subject.
Katia Abreu said "In addition to reducing tariffs, countries should harmonize standards and procedures."
