Israel's Veterinary Authorities notified the OIE about the isolation, for the first time in the country, of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSv), specifically genotype 2 (American).
Two outbreaks have been confirmed, one in Ibilin, Acco, in the district of Hazafon, with a total of 2673 animals (1,200 sows and 1,473 piglets). Three sows died and it is estimated that 600 piglets out of 763 died from the disease. Clinical signs included: diarrhoea, lethargy, cough, foetal mummification, abortions, and neonatal death. The second outbreak is located in Afeq, also in Acco (Hazafon), on a farm with 5500 susceptible animals, belonging to the same owner of the affected farm in Ibilin.
