In the first half of 2023, Santa Catarina achieved the best result in pork exports in the historical series which began in 1997. The state accounted for 56.7% of revenue and 55.2% of the volume of Brazilian pork exports, maintaining its position as the largest producer and exporter in Brazil. The result is a record for the semester both in terms of volume and revenue. These figures were released by the Ministry of Economy and analyzed by the Center for Socioeconomics and Agricultural Planning (Epagri / CEPA).
In the first half of the year, 320.1 thousand tons of pork were exported, with revenues of US $ 793.9 million, representing increases of 14.7% and 25.9% respectively compared to the same period of the previous year. China and Hong Kong accounted for 46.7% of shipments from Santa Catarina in the period.
According to Epagri/Cepa, the positive results of this first semester are due to the growth of shipments to almost all buyers. The three main destinations for pork from Santa Catarina were China, with an increase of 7.4% in volume and 22.2% in value, the Philippines, with 17.8% in quantity and 30.8% in value, and Chile, with 78.6% in quantity and 105.2% in value.
Another positive highlight was Mexico, which opened the market for Brazilian pork in November last year and already ranks sixth in exports. So far this year, a total of 6.84 thousand tons have been shipped to the country.
June results
In June, Santa Catarina exported 59.6 thousand tons of pork (fresh, processed, and offal). The volume represents an increase of 10.4% over the previous month and 17.9% compared to June 2022. Revenues amounted to US$ 150.5 million, an increase of 8% compared to the previous month and 21.6% compared to the same period in 2022.
