Between January and September 2020, exports of meat and offal from Spain to Vietnam have reached a record value of 19.2 million euros, according to information published by the Ministry of Agriculture in its Foreign News bulletin.

Based on these figures, it is expected that the January-December fiscal year will end with levels considerably higher than those of 2016, when they reached 15.81 million euros.

Most of these exports correspond to pork products (13,422 tons with a value of 17.45M euros), predominantly offal exports (7,330 tons with a value of 7.8M euros), followed by bacon (3,199 tons with a value of 4.29M euros) and pork (2,881 tons with a value of 5M euros).

The Spanish pork sector has been working on its positioning in the Vietnamese market for years, which has allowed it to take advantage of the favorable situation of exports to this destination in 2020. In February 2019, Vietnam reported the presence of African swine fever virus in the country for the first time. Since then, its local production has suffered a drastic drop, increasing the country's dependence on imports in order to satisfy local pork consumption. Vietnam has one of the highest per capita pork consumptions in the world, estimated at 26 kg by the OECD in 2019.
