As a result of Colombia recovering its sanitary status as a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination, the National Agricultural Health Service of Peru (SENASA) announced the lifting of restrictions on the importation of fresh, chilled, and frozen pork and beef of Colombian origin.
These restrictions were imposed by SENASA through resolution 016 of 2017, due to the outbreaks of foot and mouth disease that occurred in Colombia in 2017 and 2018.
The process for the reopening of the Peruvian market began with the submission of the documentation and the counter-epidemic measures implemented in the national territory to contain, control, and eradicate the outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease.
In November 2020, Colombia received a visit from SENASA to visit the places affected by the FMD outbreaks and livestock farms in the departments of Antioquia, Arauca, and Boyacá, to verify and evaluate the sanitary condition of the animals. They also visited border crossings, the ICA, INVIMA and POLFA/DIAN (CIIIP), and processing plants. After the evaluation and review of the documentation submitted, SENASA, through an official communiqué, announced the lifting of restrictions on the importation of Colombian beef and pork to Peru.
