Reorganization of German pig production

The pig census has decreased by 5% to 5.8 million head compared to May 2022. There are also 350 fewer farms.

The number of pig farms has also decreased by 43% in ten years.

With pig numbers down 11% compared to November of the previous year, the downward trend continues rapidly.

Compared to November 2021, the total number of pigs is down 8.9% to 7.1 million, the lowest level in a decade.

In the 2021/22 marketing year, 20.9 million t of grains were used for animal feed in Germany, around 16% less.

African swine fever has been detected for the first time in the district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz in wild boar.

High production costs have led many farmers to close their farms and as a result, Danish Crown has had to slaughter fewer hogs.
