Russia: ASF outbreak in the Tambov region

An outbreak of African swine fever was registered in a finishing barn of a swine enterprise with 15,000 susceptible pigs.

According to the Rosselkhoznadzor (Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision), an outbreak of ASF occurred on April 25, 2021 in Nikiforovsky District, Tambov Region. An outbreak of African swine fever was registered in a finishing barn of a swine enterprise. At the time of the registration of the outbreak, 15,000 pigs were present, 114 of which were sick, and 34 of which died.

On May 6, 2021, an interdepartmental meeting was held in Tambov to discuss the elimination of the ASF outbreak and to organize coordinated measures aimed at ensuring epizootic well-being in the region.

Following the meeting, the Deputy Head of Rosselkhoznadzor, Konstantin Savenkov, instructed the responsible officials to take comprehensive measures to ensure epizootic well-being in the Tambov Region.
