Russia has blocked the establishment of the arbitration panel in the dispute held with the EU regarding the Russian embargo on EU pork.
According to the Russian authorities, the Russian Federation aligned its measures completely with those of the organisation, subject to the conclusions of the dispute resolution authority in December 2017.
Russia imposed a ban on the imports of live pigs and their products as of early 2014 due to an African swine fever outbreak in Lithuania. In August 2016, the WTO's Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) ruled that the Russian prohibition did not fulfil the WTO's regulations. Russia challenged this decision, but its appeal was rejected in February 2017. On December 6th, 2017, the Rosselkhoznadzor removed the ban on the imports of pork from the EU at the request of the WTO, although the ban on the import of these products would remain in force under the Russian embargo on food products.
