Dmitry Krasnov, head of Agroexport, has stated that the opening of the Chinese market to Russian pork could potentially double Russian pork exports in the medium term. Krasnov expects pork exports to China to reach up to 100,000 tons in the next few years and possibly up to 200,000 tons. In 2022, total Russian pork exports were a little over 160,000 tons, and in 2023 they are expected to reach 200,000 tons.
This development is crucial as the Russian market is already fully supplied with its own products, and additional production can only be ensured through new export markets. The opening of the Chinese market is expected to have positive effects, including increased production, job creation, company development, and increased tax revenues.
In September, the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China approved the import of pork supplies from Russia after assessing the risk and the control system for African swine fever in the country.
