On November, 29 the meeting of Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor Konstantin Savenkov and Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia in Moscow Alfonso Caballero was held in Moscow. The parties discussed the situation on foot and mouth disease spread in Colombia.

Konstantin Savenkov told Alfonso Caballero that the Rosselkhoznadzor had received official information from the Colombian Veterinary Service on measures taken in the country to eliminate FMD outbreaks and to prevent its further spread. At present the materials are carefully studied by experts of the research institutes subordinated to the Rosselkhoznadzor. A week later the Rosselkhoznadzor will forward a response to the Colombian Veterinary Service.

It should be reminded that at the end of October the Rosselkhoznadzor had to impose temporary restrictions on deliveries of FMD-susceptible live animals from the entire territory of Colombia to Russia due to FMD outbreaks in this country.

Konstantin Savenkov also noted that Russia is interested in supplying various agricultural products to Colombia. This includes poultry and pork products, as well as high-quality beef. In this context the Service is ready to acquaint the Colombian side with the production facilities of large Russian companies and comprehensively demonstrate the system of veterinary surveillance.
