The Russian pig industry progresses favourably. In the last 7 years, pig production has increased by 1.5 times (1.6 million tonnes more). This positive trend is going on this year. According to the data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, in the first 5 months of 2019, the production of pigs in terms of live weight has reached 1.73 million tonnes, this representing 5.9% or 97,000 tonnes more than in the same period in 2018.
The high growth rates have allowed the country's pork self-sufficiency rate to increase up to 99.5%.
Regarding pork exports, it increases year after year. Among the strategically important target markets for Russia we have Asian countries: China, Japan, South Korea and others.
