The negotiations were held in Moscow and were devoted to collaboration between the Rosselkhoznadzor and EuFMD.
The parties discussed possibilities to conduct training in transboundary diseases for Russian specialists of West Eurasia involved in FMD roadmap under the EuFMD umbrella.
Yevgeny Nepoklonov mentioned that planned activities appear to be an important step to tackling FMD issues at the global level. The Russian Chief Veterinary Inspector also expressed concern about Transcaucasia countries which are severely affected with the specified disease.
At the same time it was mentioned that the Russian Federation is ready to give profound overview of FMD situation in the country and provide monitoring transparency. Mr. Nepoklonov stressed that current situation in Transcaucasia can be changed on condition that Russian and EuFMD activities are coordinated. The second step in tackling FMD issue should be establishment of a special programme at the level of the FAO central office by analogy with what was done for some other diseases.
It will be possible to discuss this work in detail already in October this year on the margins of the OIE regular session in Bulgaria.
