Russia – Decrease in pig population

According to the information provided by Russian State Statistics Committee as of December 1, 2010, the population of pigs totaled 18 million which is 1.6% (0.3 million) less compared with December 1, 2009.

According to the information provided by Russian State Statistics Committee as of December 1, 2010, the population of pigs totaled 18 million which is 1.6% (0.3 million) less compared with December 1, 2009.

Compared to the beginning of November, the number of pigs dropped by 3.2% or 0.6 million heads which is a matter of seasonal factors.The production volumes of pork in November 2010 totaled 139.9 thousand tons in live weight (102.5 thousand tons in slaughter weight) which is 12.8% up compared to November 2009. Agricultural enterprises produced 1432.5 thousand tons of pork in live weight (1050 thousand tons in slaughter weight) in January-November 2010 which is 1.4% more vs. the same period of 2009, 45% more vs. 2008 and 65.2% more vs. 2007.
