The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia discussed the development of the pork industry and the provision of veterinary welfare in this segment of livestock production.
As noted at the meeting, today Russia meets the domestic market demand for pork through its own production. In recent years there has been a steady growth in production volume, increasing 8.8% in 2020. This year positive dynamics are observed in 35 regions of the country. Leading regions are Kursk, Pskov, Tambov, Tula and Orel. The Ministry estimates that in 2021 pig production will remain at last year's level.
Participants paid special attention to the issue of epizootic well-being in the industry. According to First Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jambulat Khatuov, the country has created a modern pig farming industry largely due to the measures of state support implemented for the creation of new facilities and for maintaining current activities. Also, the mechanism of livestock insurance is working, which is especially important, taking into account that the main risks for the industry are associated with the epizootic situation. As a result of the meeting, the regions were tasked with strengthening control over the epizootic situation, monitoring, and forecasting production indicators.
