According to Mr. Dzhambulat Khatuov’s statement, in 2016 pig production rose by 9.4% and added up 4.35 million tonnes: the highest growth in the livestock sector. “The experts deem that in 2017, the growth in production will go on, and that we are going to rise at least 5% more, increasing production up to 5.57 million tonnes,” Mr. Dzhambulat said.
According to the Prime Minister, in the last years the industry has shown good growth rates. Since 2008, when more than 500 farms and studs were set in motion and reconstructed, production has increased by 61.4%, or by 1.65 million tonnes. He underlined that, at the same time, all this growth corresponds to the industrial sector.
During the meeting, special attention was drawn to the improvement in the state support measures for the industry. Despite the fact that, at present, the pig industry is one of the agricultural sectors with a higher developmental success in Russia, this development is still supported by the state. Therefore, this year the aid will be in the form of short-term soft loans and for making investments, as well as subsidies for the reimbursement of the direct expenses incurred for the establishment of breeder farms.
Another important item discussed was the situation regarding African swine fever (ASF) in the country, with more than 200 outbreaks of this disease in domestic pigs that affect 26 regions and more than 233,000 heads destroyed.
