Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation forecasts pig products’ export to increase more than 20% in 2019 over the previous year. The figure is likely to exceed 100 thousand tons. The development of the industry was discussed during an expanded meeting of the board of directors of the National Union of Pig Producers, held in the Ministry.

As was noted during the meeting, the main buyers of Russian pig products are Hong Kong, Vietnam and neighboring countries. China, Japan, South Korea and other Asian countries are promising markets as well. The positive dynamics of exports has been observed since 2012, while last year alone it grew by 18%. At the same time, there is a tendency to reduce purchases of pig products abroad: by the end of last year, the volume of imports decreased by more than 70%.

Significant development of this direction results from the increase in pork production in Russia. Over the past seven years, this figure has increased by 1.5 times. According to the results of 2018, production increased by 5.5%, to 4.8 million tons, in January-March 2019 - by 4.3% year-on-year. The undisputed industry leader is the Central Federal District, which accounts for half of the total production in the country.

At the moment, Russia is in the top 7 global pork producers. The country will increase global lead in this area with further development of the industry.
