Last year, the Russian livestock industry showed growth in all major areas - in the production of livestock, poultry, and milk. In 2021 the steady development continues with the main driver being the pork industry.
In the first four months of this year, pig production (for slaughter) in live weight increased by 2.1% and totaled 1.6 million tons. The main increase was provided by agricultural producers of Tula, Pskov, Bryansk, Voronezh, Tomsk, and Novosibirsk regions, the Republic of Mordovia, and Mari El, Primorsky Krai.
One of the key factors contributing to the positive trends in the development of domestic livestock farming is the active use of state support measures. This year, in order to provide additional support for the pork industry, the Russian Government adopted a resolution that provides for the possibility of extending preferential loans to agricultural producers who incurred losses due to African swine fever in 2020. This measure applies to investment loans at a rate of up to 5% for construction, modernization, and renovation of production facilities and the purchase of machinery and equipment.
