Pig farming in Russia is actively developing, being of great interest for investors. Over the last 5 years, the industry's output has increased 1.3 times by 1.2 million tons. The positive trend has been maintained this year as well - from January to September the production of slaughter pigs (live weight) increased by 10.4% to 3.9 million tons, as stated by Minister of Agriculture Dzhambulat Khatuov at the meeting of the National Union of Pig Breeders.
The leading regions in this area are the Kursk, Tambov, Belgorod, Orel and Voronezh regions. According to estimates from the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, total pig production will reach 5.4 million tons in 2020. The breeding base now fully meets the needs of commercial farms in breeding and hybrid young stock, which allows for production of products with the best qualities for consumers.
As was noted at the meeting, the industry faces the important task of increasing the supply abroad and entering new markets.
Agricultural producers need to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of their products. This is facilitated by a wide range of state support measures, including preferential investment loans for the purchase of machinery and specialized transport, breeding products and hybrid breeding stock, as well as short term loans for the purchase of young livestock, fodder, veterinary drugs, and payment of insurance premiums. The animal insurance mechanism works effectively - it is of special importance, taking into account that the main risks are related to the epizootic situation.
During the meeting the participants discussed the issues of increasing production efficiency, improving logistics, breeding and the breeding base, and ensuring animal welfare.
