The Spanish ESUAvet Report, prepared by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS), presents a detailed analysis on the sales and use of antimicrobials in veterinary medicine in Spain in 2023, in compliance with Regulation (EU) 2019/6.
This report highlights trends in antimicrobial consumption by species and animal categories in Spain in 2023, providing information for the fight against antimicrobial resistance. In addition, it identifies areas for optimization and establishes a benchmark for the development of national and European policies regarding the responsible use of antimicrobials.

According to the analysis of the data collected, most of the antimicrobials used belong to categories C and D of the AMEG classification, indicating mostly prudent use.
For pigs, a significant portion of antimicrobial use is attributed to tetracyclines and penicillins, reflecting their efficacy and application in the treatment of bacterial infections.
