Santa Catarina accounted for 56.2% of the volume and 58.1% of the revenue from Brazilian pork exports in the first six months of this year. The biggest increase in the first half of the year was in pork exports, which reached 331,300 tons, an increase of 3.6% compared to shipments in the first half of 2023.
Shipments to most of the main destinations were up by the same amount, especially the Philippines (up 54% in volume and 37.2% in revenue), Japan (107.6% and 97.6%), and South Korea (231.3% and 156.7%). Shipments to China, on the other hand, decreased 43.3% in volume.
These results are due to the recovery of Chinese pig farming, after a long period of negative impacts from outbreaks of African swine fever that hit the country from 2018 onwards. As a result, China lost its lead in the ranking of destinations for pork exports from Santa Catarina. The leading destination is currently the Philippines, which accounts for 22.3% of the state's exports.
