Brazil: Santa Catarina introduces law for sustainable wild boar management

The state administrative agricultural and environmental bodies will issue complementary regulations and adopt administrative measures necessary to implement this regulation within 60 days from the date of publication of the decree.

On March 8, the State government published Decree 501, which regulates Law No. 18,817, of 2023, which authorizes population control and sustainable management of the European wild boar (Sus scrofa) in the State of Santa Catarina.

Population control and sustainable management of European wild boar will be permitted in the State provided it abides by the law. Control will be carried out by physical means with mistreatment of animals being prohibited. It is essential that the owner, tenant, or possessor of the property grants authorization.
