The European Commission has approved schemes for Slovenia and Latvia to support pig farmers affected by the coronavirus outbreak, approved under the State Aid Temporary Framework.

Slovenia will receive €3.6 million under the scheme to offer direct grants of up to €225,000 per beneficiary until June 30 to compensate them for their loss of income caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Latvia will be granted €13 million under the scheme to provide support in the form of direct grants not to exceed €225,000 per beneficiary to partially cover the losses caused by the decrease in demand of pork and live animals and the subsequent oversaturation of the market. It will also offer support for uncovered fixed costs, not exceed €10 million per beneficiary. Support will be granted no later than December 31.
