A wild boar infected with African swine fever (ASF) was found in Boeun County in the North Chungcheong Province, about 52km southwest of the southernmost point where ASF had previously occurred in wild boars in the country.
Currently, 20,000 pigs are raised within a 10km radius of the wild boar outbreak, but if it spreads to the surrounding areas of Chungju, Goesan, Sangju, and Mungyeong, 284 thousand pigs would be exposed to the risk of ASF.
Authorities are takings steps to prevent the spread of the disease including conducting inspections of farms and a search for dead wild boars.
