According to a report submitted to the OIE, an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) occurred on October 8, 2020 in the province of Gangwon-do on a farm with 721 domestic pigs. Four of the animals had died and the rest were culled. The report also states, "503 pigs have been killed in other farm for preventive purposes."
The source of the outbreak is unknown at this time, but epidemiological investigation is ongoing. South Korea has seen over 700 cases of ASF in wild boar; however, the most recent outbreak in domestic pigs occurred almost exactly a year ago on October 9, 2019.
