The outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease that first began in North Gyeongsang Province late last month is now spreading to north of Seoul.

Pigs from farms in Yangju and Yeoncheon in Gyeonggi Province have tested positive for FMD, and roughly 2,4-hundred pigs have been buried alive.

There are also suspected FMD cases reported at farms in Paju, some 15 kilometers from the affected farms, but these cases have yet to be confirmed.

But how the disease spread and whether it came from North Gyeongsang Province or if it is caused by a new form of the virus is not yet known.
