The South Korean government has authorised the imports of pork from the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Blairo Maggi, announced it after meeting with the representatives of the South Asian country, that is the fifth importer of pork in the world. Between May 10th and 27th, Santa Catarina will receive a technical inspection task force for the approval of the authorised slaughterhouses with cold store and therefore, to start the imports of pork.
According to the Secretary of State of Agriculture and Fisheries of Santa Catarina, Mr. Moacir Sopelsa, this is an important achievement in a negotiation that has gone on for 10 years, and the excellent health status of the livestock has been decisive. Santa Catarina is the only Brazilian state with an international acknowledgement for being free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination, and free of classical swine fever, with certificates from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
