An African swine fever (ASF) outbreak was confirmed on a pig farm with about 24,000 pigs in Yeongcheon, Gyeongsangbuk-do on June 15. This is the fourth farm outbreak in South Korea this year and the first in about a month since the outbreak occurred in Cheorwon, Gangwon Province on May 21.

Relevant ministries and local governments met to review the ASF outbreak situation and quarantine measures. Detailed inspections will be conducted on five pig farms within the quarantine zone (10 km radius of the outbreak farm) and on 42 pig farms with an epidemiological relationship with the outbreak farm, and a vehicle that has entered and exited the slaughterhouse that shipped pigs from the outbreak farm. Clinical tests on 546 pig farms are planned.

Regarding pork supply and demand, the pigs culled due to the outbreak accounted for only 0.2% of the total number of pigs raised, so the impact on domestic pork supply and demand is not expected to be significant.
