South Korea reports first ASF case in 5 months

The outbreak in domestic pigs is the first reported outbreak since January.

An outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) occurred on May 21 on a farm with 1,577 susceptible animals in Cheorwon, Gangwon-do. This is the first outbreak of the disease reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health in South Korea since January.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, there are 65 pig farms within the quarantine zone (10-km radius of the outbreak farm) and there are 90 pig farms with an epidemiological relationship with the outbreak farm.
