The latest data published by the Spanish Minister of Agriculture’s statistics service indicate that throughout the month of April the number of animals slaughtered decreased by 6.7% compared to the same month last year. However, thanks to the increases observed during the first three months of the year, slaughters in the first quarter have increased by 1.14% with respect to the year before, with 13,565,163 animals slaughtered compared with the 13,412,688 animals slaughtered between January and April of 2010.
The volume of meat produced during the month of April has been reduced by 7,23% compared to April 2010, while regarding the first four months of the year it increased by 1,41%, compared to January-April of 2010 2010 (1,181,761 vs. 1,165,343 tons).
