The Senate Agriculture Committee approved the Food Quality Defense Bill, the last parliamentary process of this widely demanded basic regulation, which will give all operators in the food industry a uniform treatment, regardless of their territorial jurisdiction.
In this way, the law will help maintain market unity in the field of quality control and defense against food fraud, as well as competitiveness, transparency and clarity in the food sector, and will protect the rights of operators in the food industry against unfair competition.
At the same time, this regulation establishes effective, proportionate and dissuasive sanctions, in order to curb food fraud, in line with the mandate of the European Union on this issue.
