The Council of Ministers approved, last Friday, the Food Quality Defense Bill. It is a regulation that will go through the parliamentary procedure, and after its approval will reach the rank of a Law.
This new regulation integrates, in the field of food quality, the guiding principles of the Market Unity Guarantee Law, that implies that in the commercial relationships, the traders only have to fulfil a single regulation.
The food inspection and monitoring system from the moment of the exit of the products from the farms or the slaughtering of the animals and until their arrival to the wholesalers is also regulated by this Bill. It is a regulation whose aim is to ensure thta the products reach the consumer with all the quality guarantees.
This Bill harmonises and updates the penalty system by enacting basic rules that establish which incidents are considered minor, serious or very serious offences, and a scale regarding the amount of the fines.
Due to all this, it is deemed essential to encourage the processing of this Bill, that will help to materialise the market unity through the establishment of a common framework for the defense of food quality, and will help to improve the Spanish food system.
