Spain: drop in the consumption of pork and pork processed products

In 2016, the consumption per capita of fresh pork and pork processed products was 10.1 and 11.1 kg, respectively.

According to the last data published by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAPAMA), in 2016, the Spanish homes consumed 468,637 tonnes of fresh pork (-3.5% with respect to 2015), following the negative trend seen in the last decade (2006/2016 variation: -7.6%). Regarding the pork processed products, in 2016, a total of 516,478 tonnes were consumed, although that means a drop by 1.3% with respect to 2015. In the last 10 years the trend has been positive (2006/2016 variation: +10.4%).

At a worldwide level, the main pork consumers in 2016 were China, with 57.2 million tonnes (52% of the total), followed by the EU and the USA, with 20.6 and 9.3 million tonnes, respectively.
