Spain: first semester sees an increase in the slaughter of pigs

During the first semester of this year the number of pigs slaughtered in Spain has increased by 1.84% compared to the same period last year.

During the first semester of this year the number of pigs slaughtered in Spain has increased by 1.84% compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data published by the statistics service of the Spanish Minister of Agriculture. Between January and June of this year a total of 20,560,263 animals were slaughtered, in comparison to the 20,189,089 slaughtered in the first half of 2010. Regarding slaughters in the month of June, the number rose to 3,275,867, 1.41% more than in June of 2010.

The volume of meat produced during the month of June increased by 1.17% compared to June of 2010, while regarding the first six months of the year the increase was 1.40%, with respect to January-June 2010 (1,717,147 vs. 1,693,409 tons).

10-Sep-2011PeterPeter20.5 million pigs slaughtered in the first half of the year in Spain.To me these are amazing figures.Can anyone tell me the total pig population in Spain.
10-Sep-2011PeterPeterResearch shows that Spain had about 26 million pigs in 2009.They have about slaughtered to entire mob or imported a huge quantity for slaughter.
