According to the study’s forecasts, the invoicing and commercialized volume of pork meat will decrease in 2010 and 2011, after 2009 when consumption increased, but sales value decreased. The study also highlights, among other aspects, the census decrease of breeders over three consecutive years, and the decrease of the number of swine farms which went from 97.058 farms on January 1st of 2009 to 94.725 by the 1st of March of 2010, and the fact that swine production is still higher than internal consumption (in 2009 52% more swine was produced than consumed and it is forecast that in 2011 this will be 50%, as opposed to the 30% of 2006).
During the presentation of the study, the strategic weight of the sector internationally as well as nationally, was stressed, highlighting its participation in Final Livestock Production (33%) and in Final Agricultural Production (12,5 %), with invoicing close to 4.500 million euros.
