Yesterday, a great fire caused very severe damages in the main plant of the meat company Campofrío in Burgos, in the Gamonal-Villayuda industrial state.

The fire started at 06:45 due to causes still unknown, although the first hypothesis considered by the fire brigade is that it may have been caused by a short-circuit.

Campofrío's work council president, Mr. Pablo Fraile, has explained that, although the plant has a staff of some thousand workers, when the fire started at 06:45 this morning, there was only a security guard and a few employees of the mainteance department, so there was no production going on.

According to the press release published by the company, the firm has adopted the necessary measures to guarantee the supply of its products to the market through its other plants in Spain and in other countries.

On the other hand, yesterday, Campofrío held meetings with the employees' representatives to explain them the situation. The company has committed to invest in Burgos to regain its production capacity as soon as possible.
