Promotion of Spanish Pork at the Wofex Fair in the Philippines

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), in collaboration with the Interprofessional Association for the Agro-Food Pig Industry (Interporc), will be present at the World Food Expo (Wofex) fair in Manila, from July 31 to August 3, 2024, to promote Spanish pork and pork products as part of the “Food from Spain” strategy that seeks to position Spanish products as benchmarks of quality, food safety, and versatility.

Spain is the main pork supplier to the Philippines, having exported 145,000 tons in 2023, valued at over 270 million euros. This data highlights the importance of this market for the Spanish pork sector and MAPA's commitment to the internationalization of Spanish agri-food products.

At Span's stand at Wofex, five Spanish companies (Grupo Jorge, Patel-Icp, Faccsa-Prolongo, Fribin, and Crujiente y Dorado) will exhibit their products. In addition, three gastronomic demonstrations will be held daily to highlight the qualities of Spanish pigs. The 2017 III National Contest of White Pig Ham Cutters champion will also perform ham and sausage cutting exhibitions.

Participation in Wofex is part of a broader promotional campaign that MAPA has been developing in several Asian countries, including China, Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, and Taiwan, since June. This initiative seeks to increase the presence of Spanish products in the Asian market, consolidating existing commercial and cultural relations, as in the case of the Philippines, which has strong ties with Spain and an excellent reception of the Restaurants from Spain program.

There are currently eight certified restaurants in the Philippines under this program, and this number is expected to increase to more than 15 before the end of the year. These certifications together with the “Food from Spain” campaign act as ambassadors for Spanish meat products, wines, and preserves in this strategic market.

Strategic alliances and agreements are fundamental for the international promotion of Spanish products. MAPA collaborates with entities such as the Federation of Food and Beverage Industries (FIAB), ICEX, and interprofessional agri-food organizations such as Interporc, Provacuno, and Interovic to facilitate the participation of Spanish companies in international fairs and events, thus boosting the internationalization of the Spanish agri-food sector.
