The Spanish Government has established a common integrated system of official border controls for agri-food exports and imports, according to the order published in the Official State Bulletin (BOE).
This regulation, proposed by several ministries, repeals three previous orders dating back more than 30 years. The objective is to reinforce the efficiency, quality, and speed of controls, guaranteeing public health and improving the competitiveness of the Spanish agri-food sector, which generates more than 70,000 million euros per year in exports.
This new regulatory framework is in line with the legislation of other European Union member countries and, at the same time, responds to the demands of the Spanish agri-food sector and consumers themselves, because the new integrated system is a guarantee system and prioritizes safeguarding public health, animal health, plant health, animal welfare, and the preservation of the environment.
