European pig census numbers for June 2019 stand at 137.35 million head, indicating a 1.8% reduction compared to the same period last year. Numbers have decreased in most member states, with strong decreases in Romania (-9.8%), Poland (-8.9%), affected by ASF, and Germany (-3.55%), whereas numbers have increased in France (1.5%) and Spain (1.1%).
The census numbers for the breeding herd have also decreased in all member states (10,753,000 head, -2.8%), with the exception of Spain and the United Kingdom where increases of 1.6% and +0.2% have been recorded.
