According to data from the National Meat Processing Industries Association of Spain (ANICE) presented this week in its annual report, the meat industry ranks first by far among all the Spanish food and beverage industry, accounting for a turnover of over €20,000 M, plus 21.6% of all the Spanish food sector.
This turnover accounts for approximately 2% of total Spanish GDP (at market prices) and 14% of the industrial branch GDP; its direct sectoral employment, 80,000 workers, also represents more than 20% of total employment in the Spanish food industry.
The Spanish meat industry exported last year 1.7 million tons of all kinds of products, totalling €4.467 M, to markets around the world, a very relevant data that sets a positive trade balance of 460%.
